I'M DAVE

HI THERE,

I'm Dave.  You probably know me.  I like to drink and I can drink any one under the table, anytime.  Pubs. Parties. Weddings, I am always the last man standing and I get into a right state.  What a laugh. Course my family don't see the funny side, but they never do these days.

They say I'm drinking too much.  Where I used to have a couple of beers when I got home, I now drink five or six. Every night. Well, you would if you were in my shoes.

They think I should get help, as do my friends and even my boss. Sound familiar?

If you are experiencing difficulties with your drinking at the moment, we are here to help you. We offer free confidential support and advice about drinking for anyone aged over 16.

IN THE MEANTIME, HERE ARE SOME HANDY TIPS ON HOW YOU CAN HELP YOURSELF.

  • Be aware of the strength of what you are drinking. Depending on the brand, regular Lager could be anything from 4% (2.3 units per pint) to 5.2% (3 units per pint).

  • Recommended guidelines suggest men should drink no more than 4 units per day. Super-strength lagers can creep up to 9% (over 5 units a pint) which exceeds suggested health guidelines.

  • Drink water or soft drinks between alcoholic drinks. This will re-hydrate you and you may feel less thirsty and ill the next day.

  • Try not to drink in rounds. This can become expensive, and there may be pressure from others to drink quicker, or to drink more than intended.

  • Plan ahead. Set yourself a spending limit. Leave cards at home and only take out what you plan to spend.

  • If you think your drinking is getting out of control, keep a drink’s diary. You will know how much you are drinking and how much it is costing you. You can also work out when and where you are drinking more and who with.
